The past few weeks have been a painful reminder how challenging it is to stay motivated. Most of us can eventually find a compelling reason(s) to get healthy.

Few of us find compelling, long-term reasons.

That is why it is essential to figure out a million ways to stay motivated. A million.  Are ya with me.  Succeed or fail.  There is no middle ground.

USA Track and Field does it for me.  For now.

What’s doing it for you?

  1. Hi Jeff,
I just love your Lane 8 blog and all those really cool YouTube videos of master’s athletes. I was a Special Forces soldier 20 years ago when I was in my twenties so I have an immense respect for anyone who can maintain their competitive spirit over the years. Like so many folks I found many reasons to focus on the important areas of my life other than health. About 30 months ago I began distance running and lifting weights to regain the fitness I once enjoyed as a young man. My fitness has improved dramatically since then, but the thing I’m most excited about is the fact that I continue to train six days a week and I haven’t missed a single workout in 2 ½ years. The passion is back!

I’ve never done anything in track and field in my life but after watching some YouTube videos of Masters Athletics I just couldn’t sit on the sideline. I began training for the 400m dash last October and I ran my first 400m dash at the 2010 Winter Sun Meet (at the tender age of 47). It was an absolute blast! The people were very friendly and I loved the youthful exuberance and energy that filled the air.

I plan to run the 400m dash again at the NTC Classic this spring. I hope to see you there.

    Keep posting those wonderful videos.

  2. Jeffrey, wow, nice to hear your story. Glad you found Lane 8 and that it helped you in some way find USATF Master’s competitions as a way to get and stay motivated.
Congratulations on getting back in shape at your age. Eventually, if you are like most people, motivation will become more challenging.

Find a million ways to stay motivated.

It’s motivating to hear from people like yourself that have found these blogs (BTW, you know I write five daily blogs, right?) and use them think differently to help make their lives more productive.

While I’m still running, speed work has been absent since World’s last August. Plantar fasciitis has plagued me for some time now. It’s getting better, but not yet gone.

All the best to you Jeffrey. Thanks again for your visits and your comments. Welcome to the “neighborhood”.
