Eye surgery update, body

Walked four miles yesterday.

Slowly.

No exertion.

Couch potato pace.

Decided to water the palm trees, without exerting myself. Another four miles walking without leaving our yard.

This morning Cheryl and i walked four miles together. Same drill, slow pace.

Another four miles in the yard.

Back to back eight-mile days.

Important food differences

Our formative eating habits come from the person(s) raising us. Rare is the adult raised on world-class habits.

dad

What’s the difference between an important food and a good food?

Depends on your judgement.

Nutritional value.

Essential vitamins, minerals, etc.

Taste.

Ease of preparation.

Cost.

Availability.

Goals.

Peer and societal norms.

Etc.

i lead with nutrition.

RIP Jimmy

iPhone home screen screen shot
September 1, 2023…publicly announced early today, Sept 2. RIP Jimmy.

Jimmy Buffett has been our home’s “house music” since forever ago.

dad

Jimmy Buffett died today. He was 76.

Buffett’s music is our Florida home’s soundtrack.

It dawned on me as i walk right now but i can’t recall Jimmy ever singing about going to the gym or for a run.

Oasis of quiet, physically

Continental Divide cliff
Getting closer. The enormity of our location is lost in this photo.

Every situation, properly perceived, is an opportunity.

dad

You cannot see or think optimally if you are not quiet and still.

Physical couch potato

We’ve reached the saddle between Piegan and Pollock (seen behind us).
Apple Watch in the mountains
View from the saddle. Took us two hours…all up hill.

6-second video: Steve makes it look easy. Once you do it, it is. But there’s a fear factor the first time. This step puts you at the base of The Great Cleft.

The Great Cleft. So much fun. So challenging. i asked if i could go first, to simulate doing it solo (in the future).

At the top of The Great Cleft. Still 200′ vertical away from summit.

Keep moving forward.

Pursuing physical vibrancy is a good and decent life goal.

No one would ever shun it if it was easy.

And it’s because it’s not easy that those who reach it, sustain it, and improve it are invisibly shunned by others.

No one likes to be wrong.

When none of your family, friends, or coworkers have physical vibrancy, you have no obvious conflict with others and therefore no guilt.

No guilt?

What guilt?

The guilt in knowing you haven’t embraced physical vibrancy because it’s hard and requires serious sacrifice.

The guilt in knowing that your friend has figured out how to slay the demons everyone says are un-slayable.
