Speaking of short-term change that doesn’t last

sleep counter on iPhone app
End of May. Close but no cigar.

Speaking of short-term change that doesn’t last, i’m working hard to make an exception to the rule i just shared at Mid Life Celebration.

Do you know how many hours of sleep is your optimal target?

At 17, it’s probably too early for you to say with conviction.

For me, it’s eight hours.

For the past 11 night nights, i’ve only missed one night.

These nearly consecutive 10 nights of eight hours sleep could literally equal the year-to-date total before i began this “change” 12 days ago.

You can stop your healthy habits at any time

Space Mountain rehab

Fresh coat of paint always feels and looks good.

You can stop your healthy habits at any time.

The exercising.

The eating.

The rest.

It would be so much easier to stop focusing so much on these and just do what you want.

What say ye?

The warmup seemed like a workout

WPS Swimming
Warmups.

The warmup seemed like a workout.

When you literally know nothing about a sport, you have a lot of false assumptions. At least i do.

But here’s what i do know – the seven things i use to be a healthy runner are the exact same seven swimmers need.

Cardio, strength, flexibility, core, nutrition, rest, and motivation.

Maybe i know more than i give myself credit for.

What do you think?

What do you do when your health streak ends?

Orlando lawn mowing company
It took a three-mile walk to get this photo. Yesterday was an “off day” for biking and gym. Tuesdays and Thursdays i walk, in preparation for next week’s return trip to Glacier. Why the photo? The guy appeared to be doing a good job. Look for a replacement service before you need to,

The string of seven consecutive eight-hours of sleep each night was broken last night.

Seven hours when the goal was eight.

It happens.

What to do?

Begin again.

Start a new streak tonight.

Never give up on things that matter.

i felt the difference – wasn’t compelled to take a daytime nap.

What’s an ideal body weight for you?

Leadership quote for teachers
Yesterday morning. My bicycle in foreground. Serendipitous message.

What’s an ideal body weight for you?

Most likely, the weight we maintained at age 17 or 18 – as a High School senior – is our ideal body weight.

Several assumptions:

  • You graduated High School (not everyone does).
  • You were relatively healthy (not everyone is at 17-18).
  • You were decently active.

Subtract your High School weight from how much you weigh now.

Take the difference and divide it by your High School weight.

That is the percentage of extra weight you are carrying around all day.

Does the math show a clear path to healthy or potentially unhealthy?
