Thanks for biking with her yesterday

Florida Hospital mission
Yesterday in the waiting room for our Son to get a flu shot. Florida Hospital is the only organization (out of 2k i’ve worked with) where every employee can say this on demand.

Thanks for biking with her yesterday.

She said, “You don’t need to thank me for that.”

One person doesn’t see the need while the other feels compelled to notice and comment.

If you rarely (literally never) exercise, and then you do, it’s good.

Welcomed.

Maybe a glimmer of hope.

Maybe not.

History doesn’t support hope.

But maybe this time?

How’s your flywheel?

The other day…i needed a metaphor to help a teenager understand their continuously accelerating progress. They can’t see it as easily as me.

Last night at sunset, i knew 12 hours later (an hour from now as i type this) i’d be on the bicycle.

Flywheel.

How’s yours?

Hard to get going. Hard to stop once it does.

Getting to exercise three hours this morning feels like a reward versus a burden.

What’s holding you back?

High school track practice
Go.

Dennis said when he started swimming a year ago he could only do two laps – up and back counts as two.

Now, in an hour, he swims 68 laps (34 up and backs).

His goal is 100 laps in an hour.

He also went from hating running and believing whole-heartedly that he could never run, to running for 30 minutes.

And, he said, “I love it and look forward to it.”

He also stated that he’s lost 35 pounds.

Runners to your mark…

Windermere Prep Cross Country 2016
Go.

Windermere Prep Cross Country 2016
You’ve learned the multiple benefits of making your first mile your slowest.

Windermere Prep Cross Country 2016
Next up, you’ll learn how to maintain the second mile pace without falling off the first mile pace. First mile in 10:30 was 30 seconds ahead of target time (11 minutes). Fell slightly off pace by 17 seconds but still netted a 43 second gain against 2-mile game-plan.

Windermere Prep Cross Country 2016
You’re learning to gradually pick up your pace over the last 800 meters. Finish line is one minute away.

Windermere Prep Cross Country 2016
Well under your previous PR of 33:40.

Remember 11 months ago you couldn’t run 100 meters?

Turnaround workouts

Inspiring tagline
i exist to teach personal responsibility to a future adult.

Turnaround workouts. Tough workout last night (6:00-745pm) and easy workout at 6am this morning. His first 5k Cross Country meet tomorrow morning, a Saturday. He’s never run three miles without stopping.

Our plan has always been to run three miles without stopping by the end of August. Tomorrow is August 20. We still have 11 days if tomorrow proves too much.
