i have to laugh

family at Disney Springs
January 2, 2019 – yesterday. Mary Poppins Returns was good.

i have to laugh at how little distance we are coving after five months of running Monday through Friday every week.

Nearing 3/4 of a mile in non-stop running, with a cooldown walk that puts the total daily distance at one mile.

Seriously, after five months we aren’t quite to the equivalent of three laps around a high school track.

Why the laughing?

Because no one i know would show up at a track on the first day and run less than four laps.

Our goal is to create lifetime habits. Habits are formed slowly and steadily. How many people do you know who have been intentionally moving for a lifetime?

All of a sudden, our distance seems irrelevant to the slow, steady, and consistent progress we’ve made since August 6, 2019.

Such a crazy dream in Spring 1999

Publix grocery check out
Yesterday at Publix.

Such a crazy dream in Spring 1999.

Run one mailbox a day for a week. Each subsequent week, add one more mailbox to the daily distance.

Never dreamt 10 years later i’d be representing Team USA at the 2009 Masters Track and Field World Championships in Finland.

Ps. We ran 12 mailboxes this morning. Where will we be as a Family 10 years from August 2018 (when we began 0ne mailbox a day)?

Wishing you a broken leg?

good luck
At Disney, and in the entertainment industry in general, break a leg means good luck.

i’m getting better at waiting to make progress or completing something before saying, “Guess what i started doing?”

Why?

The likelihood that simply declaring something is not going to make it a reality.

Why?

Do your own math and you’ll quickly see that we humans are a funny bunch.

We desire all sorts of good-for-us change, but we are generally inept at making it stick.

Today begins month five of running one-mailbox-a-day for a week and adding a mailbox with each new week. This is not only me doing this, but also Cheryl and Chapin.

Today’s 10-mailboxes a day run was spectacular

sending a video clip through dropbox
The email file wouldn’t go through so here is the Dropbox upload in progress. Just a moment in time. So significant for me.

Today’s 10-mailboxes a day run was spectacular.

Our slow shuffle of a jog was the most conversational since we began running three months (14 weeks) ago.

What he did last night and the way he did it impressed me in a way i haven’t been impressed in a long time.

Why?

Just 24 hours prior, Ben (in Madrid) shared that his client wouldn’t even begin to consider me without a video clip.

Chapin went above and beyond on extremely short notice.

The result, considering all the conditions, is remarkable.

Congrats on your consistency

teen sexually transmitted diseases
There’s more to our health than exercise and nutrition. This is a staggering number. You are at such a high risk it’s not even funny.

Congrats on your consistency.

Yesterday you completed your 13th consecutive week.

Nine mailboxes per day.

Next week, 10 mailboxes a day.

The victory isn’t the distance, it’s the new habit of heading out the door at 6:15am to go for a run.
