The most appreciated attribute is…

Disney Cast Member name tags
Some of my very first Disney Cast Member name tags and Cast exclusive WDW anniversary pins from 1982, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988…

The most appreciated attribute is…

Effort.

My favorite people in the gym are the ones who feel like they don’t belong there.

Why?

Because of the courage i know they had to summon simply to walk in the front door and try.

The looks, the stares, the mumblings under the breath from gym rats.

i generally tell these brave people who look like they don’t belong that they inspire me and that i hope to see them here a year from now.

Impossible Is For Amateurs

He got athletes to take art class

Memorial service for High School art teacher and football coach
The Varsity High School Football team taking the stage two nights ago.

He got athletes to take art class.

Brad Ramsey, Windermere Prep’s IB (International Bachelorette) Art teacher and assistant football coach is best and overwhelmingly remembered as a renaissance man.

Wondering if he got artists to go out for sports.

Probably.

Great Disney leaders are inspirational

Colorado State University classroom
To teach is to learn twice. i taught full time the second 15 years at Disney Institute.

Great Disney leaders are inspirational.

i know about this.

Intimately.

i worked, served, learned, and grew up there – 30 years worth.

Think about what lights your fire.

It sure as heck isn’t something that’s luke warm.

It has to be something powerful.

It’s something bigger than yourself.

It’s something impossible.

Something noble.

It’s something you are compelled to defend because it means that much to you to see it grow and prosper.

On April Fool’s Day 2009, jeff noel began writing five daily, differently-themed blogs (on five different sites). It was to be a 100-day self-imposed “writer’s bootcamp”, in preparation for writing his first book. He hasn’t missed a single day since.

Don’t be embarrassed about being a midlife geek

Father and son at airport
Seeing me off for the flight to Finland in 2009 for Worlds. He’s taller than me now.

Pulse check.

Everyone knows i don’t promote running, right?

It’s just that running works for me, so i talk about it sometimes. i’m sure you have your thing that works for you and you find lots of ways to stay motivated with it.

And if you don’t at this stage in your life, let’s assume you are looking and hopeful.

What’s happening now though is the biggest event in Masters running (only happens every two years – Senior Olympics) is going on right now in France.

i’m bit geeked out about it.

The real insight in the recent running posts isn’t about running, it’s about being honest with yourself and smiling because you have something you get geeked out about too.

My friend, former colleague, and fellow Boomer, Shelli, is a dance geek. She couldn’t hide her love for dancing if her life depended on it.

Be well.

You’re in charge.

Please don’t be embarrassed to geek out about it.

Yesterday were the qualifying rounds for the 400 meters. It would have been my first event.

Know who you are, what turns you on

Artists who challenge the status quo.

We love inspiration. Underdogs. Courage. Rebels. Olympics.

This scene, a personal favorite, is 90 seconds. Steve Prefontaine is the only athlete, any sport, that Nike has immortalized in bronze. Donald Sutherland plays Pre’s coach. Pre’s coach was the co-founder of Nike, as well as the USA Track & Field Head Coach at the 1972 Munich Olympics.

Know who you are, what turns you on, and push your limits. Anything else is just chicken-sh!t.
