Suomi Sisu

Three more questions:

  1. Do you have guts?
  2. Do you have determination?
  3. Are you the type that doesn’t give up?

If this is you, then you have sisu (pronounced “C-sue”).  It’s Suomi (Finnish) for guts, determination and not quitting.

While in Lahti, Finland, representing the United States at this year’s WMA Masters Track and Field World Championships, I met a Finnish couple and overheard them say, “She’s got sisu (C-sue)!”

They were talking about one of the women who was competing in the W80-84 1,500 meters.  Can you comprehend that?  Early 80’s, running in the Masters World Championships?

I agree, she had sisu.

Makes me wonder what I’ll have when I get older.

Germany’s Guido Muller Reveals Success Secret

Germany’s Guido Muller reveals his secret to running success, moments after smashing the M70 400 meters World Record at the WMA Masters Track & Field World Championships in Lahti, Finland.

Surprised by his answer? I am and I’m not.

Surprised that it’s so blunt.  Not surprised because life is like this – pretty obvious.

Lane 8 in Paris?

Lane 8 in Paris?

Only for 90 minutes.

My first overseas flight to Helsinki through Paris.

I fly frequently, so I’m good with all the logistics.

Except at Charles DeGaulle Airport in Paris this morning.

Wow.  I barely made it.  So glad I didn’t give up this morning.

Miraculously, made it by five minutes.

Actually, not giving up is what got me here in the first place.

Carpe diem, and tempt yourself to never give up.  Because if you’re not tempted to not give up, what are tempted by?

jeff noel, out in Lane 8 🙂
