Effort.

My favorite people in the gym are the ones who feel like they don’t belong there.

Why?

Because of the courage i know they had to summon simply to walk in the front door and try.

The looks, the stares, the mumblings under the breath from gym rats.

i generally tell these brave people who look like they don’t belong that they inspire me and that i hope to see them here a year from now.

Looking forward to gym workouts

Disney Keynote Speaker jeff noel
Donald is all ears. He wants to know why. All Tink can do is smile…she already knows.

Looking forward to gym workouts in a way i haven’t in a long time.

Why?

Excited because lately, it feels like an absolute must-have, get-to-do opportunity.

i wish that for you.

Getting stronger, an inch at a time

Gym lockers
This may be the last week i wear a sweatshirt to walk to the gym. For the next seven months, the morning low is unlikely to dip below 70 degrees.

Getting stronger, an inch at a time.

Being a distance runner in flat terrain doesn’t make your legs strong. Yes, you gain leg stamina, but leg strength is acquired differently.

Muscle strength is helpful at all ages, and especially advantageous in your post-50 years.

Without stressing out about it or pushing myself, i’ve slowly and steadily increased what used to be my maximum weight on the final of three sets of 10 leg curls to the first set’s weight.

Thought of this right before i woke up

Strength-based leadership
From 2012. Cool flashback.

Thought of this right before i woke up.

When i offer a client a contract for business consulting what i’m really doing is offering them a membership to my gym.

When i offer an executive an Executive Coaching contract what i’m really doing is offering them private one-on-one training sessions.

The harsh reality is that not every person, and certainly not every company, rises to the level of commitment and sacrifice required for personal and organizational vibrancy.

Can’t and won’t are not the same thing.

Creativity triumphed over boredom

Disney motivational speaker
Yesterday, a random find on Pinterest. i went from almost missing a workout to creating a breakthrough.

Three days ago i didn’t feel like working out at the gym.

Plus, i almost turned around to walk home, halfway to the gym.

Somehow i mustered enough determination to keep walking.

From not “feeling it”, a miracle happened.

Walked 25% (5 miles versus 4) farther than normal, and did gym exercises i haven’t done in seven months.

All of this began as, “i don’t feel like walking or doing a gym workout.”

Yesterday’s gym workout was the first time in seven months i did the same level of workout i used to do at the previous gym.

Bottom line, i added back exercises i hadn’t done in half a year because the day i wasn’t feeling it, i compromised, got creative, and improvised a workout that felt interesting enough to triumph over boredom.
