Hoped for versus actual

Airport candy shop sign.
It was a fun moment.

What i hoped to do yesterday and what actually happened fell apart as the day progressed.

Hoped to stop at Smiths grocery and get some healthy choices, then stop at Cabin 20 to pick up the supplies (and bear spray) i stored there three weeks ago. Drive 40 minutes up to Logan Pass, park, and hike Mt. Oberlin. Finally, drive 20 minutes down to Rising Sun, check in and have the Mountain Man dinner.

Things were going according to plan until Logan Pass. The wind chill, but mostly the late time of day, had me cancel hiking.

Dinner in the restaurant morphed to boiling water for a freeze-dried chicken gumbo meal. The gumbo was not good.

Back on track, closed the day with a bullseye 9:00 PM bedtime.

Sleep trumped exercise yesterday.

This sets up today rather nicely.

When is smiling easier?

My smile signals that i figured out how to add video and sound. When i joined the meeting on the phone, video and audio was disabled and initially i couldn’t figure out why.

When is smiling easier?

When we’re surviving day to day?

When we’re thriving day to day?

Being physically fit facilitates thriving.

Common sense, not common practice.

However, you can and should be one of the exceptions.

Happiest hiker

If you zoom in you can see Granite Park Chalet.

The happiest hiker in Glacier is anyone who makes up their mind to be the happiest they can be at any moment.

All day.

Every day.

Every trail.

You don’t have to be happy on the trail. Or, you can be the happiest hiker on the trail. Over-focus on the same things you used to under-focus on or ignore, a simple salutation for example. Saying hi to everyone you pass will bring joy to you in ways you never knew were possible.

My research has shown that only 1% of oncoming hikers say hello, but 99% respond when you initiate a hello.

The power of relentless care

The power of relentless care.

  • Regular exercise.
  • Decent sleep habits.
  • Balanced nutrition and portions.

When you relentlessly view these three as your non-negotiables, you can clearly see how this benefits you over the course of your life.

What Springsteen says

Gearing up for the comeback…four pairs of New Balance running shoes arrived yesterday.

Still having foot and ankle pain, however, after sufficient warmup, it disappears.

This is progress.

i love to run.

Our bodies are made to do it.

Baby, we were born to run.

Watch children play and say it’s not so.
