In the heat and slowness, gratitude

Yesterday’s easy 8-miler.

Working to get out the door earlier. Back to like it used to be, running mostly in the dark.

Why?

August has been so humid.

The time of day can make a world of difference in how much we enjoy running.

Still nursing a mystery pain, so the first and last miles are walks. The six miles in between are two to three minutes off normal healthy pace.

Enjoying the easy effort.

Active rest days can include long walks through town.

While yesterday was an active rest day, it was also a work day and there was a business meeting downtown with a Healthcare CEO.

Dear Son, fun is in the physical freedom

Orlando Wellness Speakers

Dear Son, from one gift, physical health, come many.

Please do not take offense if the following does not describe you now.

Yet know it IS achievable if we are willing to burn the ships of old habits, excuses, and fears.

Fun is in the physical freedom.

To taste the weirdly wonderful joy of loose fitting clothing.

To feel unembarrassed poolside or beachside. Or anywhere.

You are already youthful. Every 14 year old is.

But to feel strong, flexible, vibrant.

To feel deep personal integrity in our food choices and portions.

To place sleep on our high priority list.

We are lean when we are active and intentional.

The car window message really didn’t make sense at first glance

“Help Me”

Delayed run until well past sunrise in order for the air to warm. Nothing less than 50 minutes sounded good.

Saw a “help me” message on a car stopped in the middle of a busy four-lane road near Disney.

Turns out it was two honeymooners looking for Downtown Disney.

It was a nice one-minute break with 10 minutes still to run.

To run at Disney or to run nearby

Uncle Grandpa's house

(photo: running affords the ability to walk to the end of our driveway and begin exercising… no driving, no special equipment… any time, any day)

Cousin from Jacksonville arrived last night for a 5k at Disney’s ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex this morning.

She also has a fondness for Epcot’s Food and Wine Festival which is in full swing right now.

Debating whether to start this morning’s run from the mailbox, or drive to Disney and slip into the sea of runners and be a 5k crasher.

What would you do?
