Penny and splinter comparison
A tiny buildup, on the left, can cause excruciating pain.

Ran 9.5 miles yesterday morning and then headed to podiatrist to have a tiny buildup removed from the ball of my foot. Because the pain only began a week ago, i took care of it before it affected running.

On April Fool’s Day 2009, jeff noel began writing five daily, differently-themed blogs (on five different sites). It was to be a 100-day self-imposed “writer’s bootcamp”, in preparation for writing his first book. He hasn’t missed a single day since.

This website is about our physical health. To easily and safely leave this site to read today’s post on jeff’s spiritual health website, click here.

Will he meet or exceed the goal this morning?

Night resting foot splints.
Only a handful know jeff noel has worn these for a dozen years.

Will he meet or exceed the goal this morning? The goal for this morning’s 5k is 22:10.

In the 55-59 age group, that should be in the top five, or better.

In his first ever 5k, he ran 22:10 a decade ago as a 45-year old.

And 12 years ago began wearing night resting foot splints every night.

No one knows. No one cares.

Sharing it to say this:

Excuses bore me. Please keep yours to yourself.

It’s one set back after another, just like in nature

Foot pain diagram
No pain from any joints. Pain is one digit up, but between the middle toes.

It’s one set back after another, just like in nature. Study nature long enough and you learn a brutal truth. Nature is survival of the fittest. Everything else gets eaten in due time.

The newest foot pain is driving him crazy because he knows exactly where it’s located, but there are no visible signs on the skin’s surface for him or his Podiatrist to see, and take action on.

Semi-scary.

And yet he knows this too shall pass.

But why did it have to happen now?

Hassle factor versus giddy factor

Orlando Disney Speaker
Accidental shot from the recent longest lifetime run through Disney World.

There is a remote possibility that 2015 could be the healthiest my feet have been in the past decade.

While World’s (in August) in France seems like too much logistical effort at this time, Nationals (July) in Jacksonville, Florida makes me giddy.

This post was inspired by another Lane 8 post 100 days ago.

Yeah, You Heard Me Correctly Yesterday

I check my weight everyday (except when I travel, because I have no scale).

So yeah my feet – practically a runner’s best friend – are feeling better than they have in a decade. What does this mean? It means patience is a virtue.

Please tell me (more importantly, tell yourself) you are still moving forward with your wellness and health commitment. Expect a story to emerge as the days go by. And if you want to share yours, have at it (no expectations, just an honest invite).
