Healthy accidents

Bicycling in Glacier National Park before Sun Road opens to vehicular traffic. This is a 16-mile (Avalanche Creek to Logan Pass) continuous elevation gain from 3,200′ to 6,643′. Accidentally discovered you can rent bicycles and if physically capable, you can peddle all the way to the Continental Divide, without fear of vehicles.

Unhealthy accidents (mistakes) can set you back.

Many unhealthy accidents stem from neglect.

Some unhealthy accidents then require a lifetime of full-time care. Care that would not be required if neglect (mistake/accident) wasn’t a thing for you.

Some unhealthy accidents (mistakes) are temporary. Learn from them.

Flip it around.

Many healthy ‘accidents’ stem from intentionality, focus, and discipline.

Some healthy accidents deliver a lifetime of physical vibrancy.

Some healthy accidents (mistakes) are temporary. Learn from them.

In 2020, after spending 50 consecutive days hiking in Glacier National Park (GNP), discovered you can become vibrantly well simply by walking a lot. And consistently walking above 6,000′ delivers more than physical vibrancy.

Note: In 2020 the original goal was to visit GNP for two weeks and come home by Labor Day. ‘Accidentally’ turned into a seven-week trip.

Final note: ‘Accidentally’ discovered after the fact i never again want to be away from family that long.

Fear, fail, learn

There are 31 beads left in the jar. There are five separate 2018 trips planned to GNP.

You know what’s hard to dream of?

Overcoming fear and failure.

And overcoming the truth – we have a vast capacity to learn, but deny ourselves because fear and failure loom over us.

Now, today, is the only time we should be focused on our long-term health.

Go.

Failure is a great teacher

Service process failure
i love Walgreens. Last night reinforced how challenging it is to be excellent 100% of the time. Notice the two red signs in the bottom corners.

Failure is a great teacher.

Taking risks is a predictable path to failure.

If you want a great teacher, become friends with taking risks (and failure).

Desire is never in doubt, and it is never enough

Branding of the hurdles for the Track & Field team does what?

New Year’s resolutions fail because of one insidiously overlooked reason. We think we can wave a magic wand and become the thing we want to become by flicking the proverbial switch.

One single day (January 1) on a calendar is the proverbial switch. New year, new me. Right?

It’s foolish to take stock in desire, without taking stock in commitment.

Desire isn’t the issue, commitment is.

Until we accept this brutal reality – that we aren’t truly committed – we will continue the self-fulfilling prophecy that New Year’s resolutions don’t work.

Note: If we are truly committed, we will not rest until we accomplish what we set out to accomplish. Commitment comes with the clause known as “lifetime guarantee”.
