Best advice for what to do when you don’t want to do it

Universal Studios thrill ride
Yesterday afternoon running past Universal Studios.

Best advice for what to do when you don’t want to do it?

Get creative.

You need a reason to trick yourself into just getting started.

Why?

Because once you start, you will quickly begin to feel better.

It’s overcoming the initial inertia that seems daunting.

So i rationalized…

i’ll run to my dentist because i owed them a phone call. Afterwards, i experimented with running through Universal Studios.

From not running to 7.5 miles.

Magic?

Yes.

PS. Was at Gold’s Gym Orlando when i began the run, just a mile down the road from Universal Studios.

On April Fool’s Day 2009, jeff noel began writing five daily, differently-themed blogs (on five different sites). It was to be a 100-day self-imposed “writer’s bootcamp”, in preparation for writing his first book. He hasn’t missed a single day since.

This website is about our physical health. To easily and safely leave this site to read today’s post on jeff’s spiritual health website, click here.

First impressions are not always what we expect

The Car Dealership General Manager said he felt guilty by the obviously fit middle aged men (47 & 55) in his office.

No guilt was intended.

To be honest, it was a huge compliment.

Unsolicited.

Yet proof that personal vibrancy is uncontainable.

If what you do for work requires setting an example, vibrancy is like honesty.

Exceptionally rare and valuable.

Uncontainable.

Where does one get energetic from?

Retirement card

(photo: Card from colleague…Fernando used an acronym… how does one earn the label, energetic?)

Something like 66% of the American people didn’t vote on November 4 (two days ago). Two-thirds couldn’t make it work.

The number is even higher for the number of people who do not lead active lifestyles – regular exercise, a balanced diet, adequate rest.

Why?

Because we are distracted, entertained, and medicated with busy-ness and apathy.

He who does not move does not notice his own chains.
-Rosa Luxenburg

Figuring this out is only one person’s responsibility.

We know this.

Balance. Energy. Priorities. Our purpose.

Living like we mean it does require us to have a strategy for balance and for clear priorities.

Should be heading out the (hotel room) door in five minutes if there’s going to be a run this morning.

To be honest, there are still many things that can be done before that.

Still have 90 minutes before needing to make a three minute walk to ‘the office’.

Everyday our life is about making choices.

Balance. Energy. Priorities. Our purpose.

Will be back tonight to write the three remaining posts.

Specific or vague, the results are astounding

The more specific our health goals, the more specific our actions will be day after day, week after week, month after month, until we die.

The more general (vague) our goals, the more freedom we have to make excuses and put routine practices on the back burner.

Editor’s note: A scheduling conflict (was in California) made it impossible to attend. Be flexible, yes?
