i don’t like sports, exercise, or vegetables

Disney Institute Keynote Speaker
You can (and should) get and stay healthy.

i don’t like sports, exercise, or vegetables.

Liking sports won’t make a difference, but not finding a way to embrace the other two…

What do you think will happen to you decades from now?

Wellness is a commitment that needs fun

As we jogged together as a family yesterday for the first time since Summer, i smiled at how many months we’ve been out the door at 5:15am or 6:15am.

Cheryl and i hit it around 5:15am. Chapin and i around 6:15am.

Our distance is nearly 1,200 meters.

If i used distance to measure success, we’d get a low grade.

If i use longevity to measure success, compared to not running at all, we are a smashing success.

The only reason tomorrow’s speaking gig was accepted

Delta comfort Plus
Not gonna lie, it took about three hours to fall asleep and dozens of positions until exhaustion saved me.

Rest is critical to our health and well-being.

The thesis for Disney business operations is this:

Disney’s success comes from our ability, and discipline, to over-focus on the same things others under-focus on or ignore. We’ve learned to be intentional where others are unintentional.

In order to accept this Keynote Speaking engagement, the only way i’d agree to their lower fee was by over-focusing on sleep.

i wasn’t about to fly 13 hours one-way for the same fee i do Orlando (home) speeches.

But this was the first-time Thinking Heads Speaker Bureau had come to me and i didn’t want to walk away.

So the only reason tomorrow’s speaking gig was accepted came down to the client’s willingness to pay me an elevated travel stipend to cover my Delta One ticket cost.

Travel allowances are additional income to your bottomline – in this case, an additional $7,300 for the Delta One ticket.

Creativity triumphed over boredom

Disney motivational speaker
Yesterday, a random find on Pinterest. i went from almost missing a workout to creating a breakthrough.

Three days ago i didn’t feel like working out at the gym.

Plus, i almost turned around to walk home, halfway to the gym.

Somehow i mustered enough determination to keep walking.

From not “feeling it”, a miracle happened.

Walked 25% (5 miles versus 4) farther than normal, and did gym exercises i haven’t done in seven months.

All of this began as, “i don’t feel like walking or doing a gym workout.”

Yesterday’s gym workout was the first time in seven months i did the same level of workout i used to do at the previous gym.

Bottom line, i added back exercises i hadn’t done in half a year because the day i wasn’t feeling it, i compromised, got creative, and improvised a workout that felt interesting enough to triumph over boredom.

At first glance, why not ease up today?

Bear grass
Bear Grass.

Knowing today is a workout day and that tomorrow (a Saturday) i arrive in Glacier National Park, today’s workout will be light normal.

The workout i do should have no bearing on the significant walking mileage the next seven days.

So the temptation to go light today has subsided.

Also, today marks the end of three-mailboxes-a-day.
