As You Get Older

Fitness and wellbeing is priceless

Disney motivational speaker
Common sense, and often too little in common practice.

The long way is the shortcut.

When i recommitted to not only getting back into a high level of physical well-being in 1999 at age 40, i also recommitted to staying well for the rest of my life.

Twenty years later, it is easy to see how much commitment was necessary and how the results stand like a beacon for being dedicated to honoring the temple that houses everything keeping you alive.

Impossible Is For Amateurs

The department of no

Walked 5 miles to Magic Kingdom yesterday. Bus photo here is from walk to Disney’s Contemporary Resort to catch an Uber.

The department of no.

Responsible for no…

No excuses.

No blaming.

No waiting.

No apathy.

Final 120 Days

Still crazy after all theses years

2019 IAAF World Relays from Japan concluded yesterday.

Still crazy about USATF after all theses years.

Son, what’s important to note is that i’m carrying a lifetime of excitement to support and follow Team USA.

Sure, track and field is an obscure sport….not a single friend nor family member is into track and field. Not one.

This lifetime of following facilitates an emotional connection – because i’m a runner – that drives my commitment to staying active.

Leadership Involvement challenges

Disney road sign
Heading home after the U-Turn drop-off.

Recall a time when your commitment came easy in doing important work. What allowed that to happen?

Recall a time when you were on a team where it was easy for everyone to be committed. What allowed that to happen?

What are the similarities between your commitment and the team’s commitment?

Recall a time when you struggled to be committed. What held you back?

Recall a time when you were on a team that wasn’t committed. What held everyone back?

Now, think about your current commitment level. What’s to gain? What’s to lose?

What and how can you replicate what worked for you before? What and how can you replicate what worked as part of a committed team?

Back to your commitment and the power it holds…

Why is moving from fully compliant to fully committed a challenge? What if it wasn’t?

Do you believe there are scalable success factors that you can use to architect the desired commitment level?

Why or why not?

How Much Is Enough?

Finding this harder to do as i age

Disney Motivational Speakers
Christmas evening Family bike ride, yesterday. Shirt buttoned to top because of the cool crisp air. PS. Photo taken while bicyccling.

Finding this harder to do as i age.

What?

Understand (and accept) why the human species, in general, does not:

  1. Exercise cardiovascularly
  2. Exercise for strength
  3. Eat properly
  4. Rest well
  5. Stretch
  6. Exercise core
  7. Get and stay motivated

Can someone explain this to me please?

Totally feeling like a misfit, outcast, crazy, freak.

To be honest, it totally does not bother me.

Talking (writing) about it publically helps people process their thoughts and strengthen their understanding of and conviction to an intentional life.

Because of this phenomenon, i kept writing on day 101 of a 100-day self-imposed writer’s bootcamp in 2009.

It’s also the reason i haven’t missed a day writing five daily, differently-themed posts, since April 1, 2009.
