Four growth rings

From a fascinating TEDx Talk.

The growth starts at the bottom and rises. Chaos is not the goal. The goal is to avoid the two ends, and thrive in complexity – that’s where we learn and grow.

  • Chaos
  • Complexity
  • Order
  • Stagnation

Comfort equals stagnation.

Sleeping in, eating processed foods, avoiding annual checkups, not exercising, you get the picture. Comfort.

Any questions?

The compound effect from 4 or 5 decades

Granite Park Chalet
Granite Park Chalet sits at 6,700 and is clearly visible here.

If you see yourself as anything other than physically vibrant it’s because of the one simple choice you justify every day.

The choice you make to justify that the daily effort required for vibrant habits is more uncomfortable to you than the daily discomfort from settling for a less than vibrant lifestyle.

Here’s some wisdom from a 60-year old: the magic of compound interest will grow exponentially in the intentional, or the neglectful, daily choices you make during your first four or five decades.

Bank on compound interest, whether you invest or borrow time.

Our first action is determining what will be left undone – possibly forever

Albert Einstein quote
Who writes our script? Who also gets to rewrite it?

What tradeoffs are we willing to make?

To create time to get (and stay) healthy we have to destroy the time we spent doing some other thing.

This is more important than figuring out exactly what type of exercise we need to do.

Our first action is determining what will be left undone – possibly forever.

Painful?

Yes.

Easy?

No.

Worth the effort?

Only one person can rationalize our answer.

To not work for the better outcome seems selfish on the part of comfort

Heavy traffic on I-4
Which road would we rather travel if given the option to pick?

Ever wonder what the difference is in the way we physically, emotionally, and mentally handle arduous stress and pressure when we are in decent physical condition versus not?

To not work for the better outcome seems selfish on the part of comfort.

We are striving for peace and contentment, not comfort. No?
