My wish for your body

Unfocused photo with numbers
Failed photo of rental car odometer. Turns out, it’s a metaphor for the health metrics most use. Unfocused, un-prioritized, no clue what’s happening.

May you embrace and honor your body, the temple housing everything keeping you alive.

  1. Cardio
  2. Strength
  3. Flexibility
  4. Core
  5. Nutrition
  6. Rest
  7. Motivation

Personal hygiene habits help maintain and protect your senses (sight, hearing, taste, touch, smell).

Regular checkups, personal standards, self-awareness and education help you be alert for health changes.

Prevent through excellent habits.

Mitigation through early detection.

Heal, when necessary, with focus and discipline.

Every day is not sophomore move in day

The College President’s yard on this morning’s walk and jog.

The early bird gets the worm. The early walkers and runners get the solitude.

Late risers have no idea.

Most college freshmen last year never knew dorm life.

Many of this year’s college sophomores will have their first taste of dorm life.

What they will know after living in a dorm will pale what they knew last year.

Same concept for morning people.

Does this matter and why?

Yes. Because the day is won in the morning.

Focus on what you have

The morning we left campus. Yesterday, in fact.

Focus on what you have.

Don’t focus on what you don’t have.

Seems ridiculously obvious.

It is, however, a rare character trait.

Lean into rare.

You have a body.

A marvelous temple housing everything keeping you alive.

Focus on this precious, amazing, exquisite masterpiece.

Behave like your life depends on it

Behave like your life depends on it.

Why?

Because it does.

Imagine having great habits and rituals for activity, nutrition, and sleep.

Imagine maintaining this physical vibrancy for years, or longer.

Now envision it being stripped away forever.

When you are part of something that’s worth defending, you are onto something remarkable, and admirable.

You had to see this coming too

Freshmen meeting their Freshman student mentor. Yesterday 5pm, after the convocation and farewell reception.

You had to see this coming too.

What?

The joy (and peace) you feel from decades of honing your wellness habits and rituals.

Can you imagine neglecting physical activity, nutrition, and sleep for decades?

No, you couldn’t.

You had to see this coming.

Congratulations on having a healthy vision of the future that is not only better than now, but much better.
