On April Fool’s Day 2009, jeff noel began writing five daily, differently-themed blogs (on five different sites). It was to be a 100-day self-imposed “writer’s bootcamp”, in preparation for writing his first book. He hasn’t missed a single day since.

First bike fall ever as an adult

Arlo Home Security Camera
One of four security camera companies i purchased from.

Rode a bicycle 25 miles roundtrip to visit a former Disney Institute colleague at Disney Institute for a 7am meeting yesterday.

To maximize my time while cycling, a phone call began at 6am as i peddled past our mailbox.

The fall (yes, fall, not call) came at 6:55am on a wooden boardwalk next to Highway 192 near Celebration Place.

Was on the phone (Skype) with a Disney College Program alumnus who moved to Australia to get out of her comfort zone.

Thank you Stephanie for being my only “witness”.

What’s astonishingly significant to me is the fact that i’ve bicycled the equivalent of twice around the Equator as an adult, never wearing a helmet.

Haven’t done this since i was younger

This used to be a daily one-way trip to work, at Disney’s Contemporary Resort.

Haven’t done this since i was younger. Went for a 30-mile bike ride yesterday.

When we permanently relocated to Walt Disney World in 1984, the first three years i was riding a bicycle to work. We were a one-car family. Cheryl got the car.

In 1984 it was a daily 36-mile roundtrip ride from our roach-infested Kissimmee apartment to Disney’s River Country Water Park and back.

From 1985-1987, it was a 30-mile one-way trip from our 1,100 square foot starter home to Disney’s Contemporary Resort.

The ride home was in my neighbor’s pickup truck. We both had the same 4pm-12am shift with identical days off. Gene was a washing machine mechanic at Disney’s only laundry at the time. There are four laundries now.

Risk taking 101

Moonset near Disney World
Lower center, just above tree line – the moon is setting as i leave for the gym.

Cycling 25 miles round trip just to go to the gym was a one-time solution to skip a day of running to rest a sore leg.

That was two weeks ago.

Now i’m 96% convinced that i will take an indefinite break from running.

Could be a month.

Might be six months.

Time will tell.

Feeling exceptionally creative (choosing to bike is just a simple, but dramatic departure from normal) because underneath the physical focus is a work initiative that’s going to blow the roof off what i’ve done in the past.

And breaking free (intentionally or unintentionally) from normal is very inspiring.

Dancing counts as exercise…

I do not know why I run, I only know that I enjoy it and can not help myself. — Roger Bannister
