Imagine running three consecutive PR’s in one practice

Children statues
This would be easy to miss or ignore. But remember being a child flying a kite for the first time? That’s hard to ignore.

Imagine running three consecutive PR’s in one practice.

He did that last night as we did 400 meter intervals.

On our final cool-down lap, i planted the seed that one day these PR (personal records) would become a warmup lap time. Something he can’t fathom now.

But i see it clearly and convincingly.

Dear Son

He doesn’t know he ran farther than he’s every run before

He doesn’t know he ran farther than he’s every run before. Yesterday, a Saturday, we covered 1.5 miles before we stopped to walk.

His previous longest continuous run was 1.25 miles.

Two days prior to this milestone, we ran his fastest (by far) track interval workout.

Knowing our pace yesterday would be ridiculously slow, i thought we could still manage a personal best, but rather than speed, i challenged it to distance covered.

Seeing tangible results is highly motivating.

The great summer of 2012

How important is a deadline?

best summer ever
let's give 'er hell this summer!

Remember, we’re approaching this summer as if it’s going to be the best one ever, right? The metaphor of trying to think and act like it’s our last is not a morbid, sorrowful approach, but a brilliant motivational opportunity to fully live without the worry of what others will think of us.

Soon after we’re dead, few will ever remember that we even existed. So, you guys still in? Deadline in 79 days…go!
