Yesterday: 5k warmup, 5k race, 5k cool down.

Three 5k’s to celebrate Independence Day 2015. Here are the splits for the official (2nd 5k):

  • Mile one: 6:53.
  • Mile two: 6:58
  • Mile three: 6:29
  • Final .1 mile: 37 seconds.

Elapsed time: 21:19

The most interesting part was how easy the first two miles were. Kept my breathing through my nose until the final mile.

Update October 13, 2015: No longer taking selfies with sweaty chest thanks to a family member (Eric Chet). The original intent was to capture the profuse sweating to demonstrate what a 56 year old can do when there are no limits.

Annual Track Shack Watermelon 5k 2015 this morning at 7am.

An hour drive, a 5k warmup, then the actual 5k.

Coming off the two week slow down from mystery pain in right calf.

Since running intensity has been way off, maybe the ‘rest’ will make the 5k ‘interesting’ (fast).

On paper his strategy was a mistake

Windermere 2015 5k results
Yesterday’s 5k results for 50-59 age group.

At 55 he wondered if he could run as fast or maybe even faster than when he was 45.

Like a zealot, and although he had never done this, he ran the entire course as a warmup prior to the race.

He should have saved his energy. Conserved his resources for the big event.

His goal was to run the 22:10 he ran 10 years prior. His actual result was 21:50.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

We know this.

Find joy in your exercise journey or plan to fail

Windermere Run Among the Lakes 2015
Gearing up for first competitive run of 2015.

Map My Run Mile Split
One mile time trial was actually 6:02.

Running began April 1999 after a wake up call – a bad cholesterol blood work report. The good HDL cholesterol was in the danger zone. Doctor said exercise would fix it.

To gauge progress and challenge myself, about once a month a one mile time trial is run. Yesterday’s aim was to break six minutes flat. Missed it by two seconds.

The coolest thing you’ll never find in a wellness self help book

Monday’s run.

Wednesday’s run.

The coolest thing you’ll never find in a wellness self help book is this:

When you refuse to quit, your greatest accomplishment is your journey. Your journey is the reward.

It’s Friday morning and the goal is to drive to Windermere (after writing today’s five posts) to run the upcoming Run Among the Lakes 5k course three times, for a nine-miler.

Who would have ever thought that the other two runs this week would be half-marathons?

No one. Ever.

Course map.
