That first track season was exciting. It provided new and abundant motivational fuel. It ended poorly, but that only made my resolve greater. And I set out on the long, slow road to hamstring-tear recovery.

Long story short, the next year, wiser and much more focused, I ripped the other hamstring.

Stupid boy.

  1. Oh my goodness, and yet you didn’t give up… Many people would have said enough, or taken up another sport; less injury producing.

  2. Quit? No. Fail? Yes.
    We often say failure is not an option. What this really means, to me, is that failure is not an option because we will – over an over.

    What really is optional is continuing.

    So in reality, quitting is not an option. Failure is simply part of the process.
