5,000 days in a row, physically

5-second video: Health is wealth. For any living creature.

i love the burden of a crazy idea. For example, becoming an Olympian at 50.

Grizzlies to Gators

Alligator beside lake
Highest water levels since 2004. Water is Alligator real estate. Today’s Disney-hike encountered a dozen close-water paths.

Hiking intensity and duration was off this year. It is what it is.

Valuable lessons learned that otherwise would not have been learned.

Meanwhile, while stepping on the scale the past three mornings, am shocked at the weight.

Lightest in many years.

Lean feels good.

Just not sure how i got here.

April Fools Eve 2009

24-second video: This is what some do when they hear the news.

Fifteen years ago, on April Fools Eve 2009, i doubted my ability to write five blogs a day for 100 consecutive days.

Unfathomable to think i could accomplish that 100-day, self-imposed-writer’s-bootcamp impossible goal.

Tomorrow, year 15 begins.

Talk about unfathomable.

Sheeeez.

Yet here we are.

Double dipper

Stumbled on this relic recently.

Double dipper means you dip your rear tire in the Atlantic, you bike 170 miles across Florida and dip your front tire in the Gulf of Mexico.

We began our full-time Disney careers in 1984.

Some backstory: Had worked two-thirds of 1982 at Walt Disney World, then returned to Pennsylvania to attend my Dad’s second marriage. Shortly thereafter, embarked on a cross-country, solo, bicycle tour.

Fast forward, ended up in Washington State and got married in 1983.

In 1984 when we arrived in Florida, we owned one car. Cheryl used it. We both worked at Disney. There is no public transportation in Orlando. We never worked the same shifts. Because i had an 18-speed touring bicycle, i biked 36 miles roundtrip to Disney’s River Country Water Park lifeguard job.

So in 1985, the idea of biking 170 miles in one day intrigued me. Could i do it?

Only one way to find out.

You only get the patch if you successfully bike 170 miles in one day.

Act one day at a time

9-second video: This experience fortuitously enabled a very special Grizzly Bear experience a few days later. The pinnacle Grizzly Bear experience in my half-century of visits. Cheryl was next to me while filming this clip and during the 50-year pinnacle experience.

How hard is it to write a relatively short and simple blog post about something you’ve experienced?

Not hard.

Then why was it impossible to do it every day?

Maybe it was because you wanted to write five daily posts.

But you had an end date (100 days from the launch).

And you had a compelling reason.

Do the reps.

Practice writing.

Practice by doing it.

You don’t sign up for a 5k, do nothing, and then six months later show up to run for the first time ever.

Same with writing a book.

Note: Never saw the ‘addiction’ to writing coming. It’s been nearly 14 consecutive years without missing a single day. An unofficial world record by nearly 50% of the official world record (17,212 posts).

Karma?

What do you think?
