Three important thoughts about a motivating comeback

Three important thoughts about a motivating comeback:

  1. let your patience invigorate you
  2. let your tenacity motivate you
  3. let your results inspire you

Ran a 5:56 mile two days ago.

Skipped running altogether yesterday, but hit gym (1st time in 7 days).

Ran 5:47 this morning.

Active rest next four days.

Run 5k on 5th day.

Coming back.

Breaking Dawn or breaking down yesterday’s post?

Lane 8 just before M50 prelims at 2009 Masters Track World Championships
Lane 8 is reserved for the slowest runner in the 400 meters race

Breaking Dawn or breaking down yesterday’s post?:

1. Impossible goal = earning Lane 8 (the worst lane for the slowest runner) in the 400 meters (at the World Championships)

2. Ongoing, compelling short term goal(s) = next week’s 12th annual Windermere Run Among the Lakes 5k (my very 1st 5k ever in 2003)

3. Turning negatives into positives = cranked out a 5:56 mile yesterday, even with a very strong headwind.

Motivation is like a fire.

What if we acted like we know how to add fuel to it. All the time.

What would happen?

If not us, who?

If not now, when?

We lose our edge to stay motivated without these three things

Indianapolis, Indiana

How’s our motivation? What would we say to that right now?

We lose our edge to stay motivated without these three things:

  1. an impossible goal
  2. (ongoing) compelling short term goals to reach the first goal
  3. the creativity to turn a negative into a positive

Back last night from a road trip. One of the most taxing weeks in a long time. Exercise was minimal.

Five days in a hotel netted only two treadmill runs (not a treadmill fan):

  • 2-miles at 10-minute mile pace (pedestrian for me)
  • 4-miles, including a 6-minute mile (sweet!)

Does this example mean anything to us?
