The Spring Masters Track & Field season is 60 days away

rekindle passion

rekindle – not Starbucks and Christmas, Masters Track Spring competition

The Spring Masters Track & Field season is 60 days away. Was reminded of that while jogging this morning.

Time to figure out a doable, accelerated plan for the drop down to 800 meters.  All of you are giving thought to your unending methods to stay motivated. Right?

Good. I’m not alone then.

Can’t imagine staying motivated without a decent goal. Can you?

This is really funny, until it’s not.

Three motivational secrets Masters athletes know that elude others:

  1. Wishing accomplishes nothing
  2. The clock never stops ticking
  3. The inconvenience of exercising beats the inconvenience of poor health

There Were 5,300 Master’s Olympians From 80 Different Countries

Lahti, Finland: 5,300 Master's Olympians from 80 different countries (see the flags?).

jeff noel was five years into running, eating better, resting more and getting healthy before the seed of an idea – going up against the world’s best – crossed his mind.

As you focus on what you want to do, and need to do, remember, you are in this for the long haul, the rest of your life. Make small plans, so you can be successful early. Grow in manageable increments, so you can continue to be successful.

Overtraining Is A Common Pitfall of Older Athletes As They Try To Regain Their Youth

jeff noel's Hometown, Walt Disney World

If Baby Boomers compete in athletics, they are likely involved in Masters or Seniors competitions. All in good fun with a generous competitive spirit. Anything to keep their motivation to exercise consistent. And sometimes, it pays to slow down and smell the roses flowers. Becoming blinded by success can lead to ruin. The paradox is we have no idea what we’re capable of, until we push our limits.

jeff noel's Hometown, Walt Disney World

At Disney’s Contemporary Resort, jeff noel was standing in the shade on a hot, humid Central Florida afternoon, and the flags and monorail caught his eye for no apparent reason. Just weeks before the 2007 Masters Track & Field World Championships in Italy, noel’s workout included six repetitions of the Contemporary’s 14 flights of stairs, all two-steps at a time, with two sets at three steps at a time. Two weeks later, from overtraining, noel became injured and couldn’t go to Italy.

Find A Million Ways To Stay Motivated Is Not A Clever Statement, It’s The Truth

Paris, 2009, heading to Helsinki, Finland for the Masters World Championships…

I’m here to help you stay motivated. Don’t let disappointments convince you to quit. Ever.

Held every two years, the World Master’s Athletics Track and Field championships begin today in Sacramento, California. First time in 15 years Worlds has been on America soil.

With every reason to be bitter for missing this (potential once-in-a-lifetime) home field advantage, I refuse to.

Find Your Excuse

Be Inspired, Have Fun, Stay Healthy

Be Inspired, Have Fun, Stay Healthy

You know it and I know it.  Don’t we?  It’s no secret.

The hardest thing to do when it comes to living a healthy lifestyle, is to continue our motivation for an entire lifetime.

So, here’s our number one excuse: Life is insanely busy and difficult.

Use this “blinding flash of the obvious” to your advantage.  This is extraordinarily powerful.  But only if you are willing to admit it and use it to overcome what most never do.

One of the best ways to overcome excuses is to find an “excuse” to get involved. And your “excuse” may change throughout your lifetime. Changing is not failure.  Quitting is failure.

Track and Field is what’s doing it for me. Track and Field is the number one participatory sport in the United States public school systems. Monkeys were made to climb. Fish to swim. Birds to fly.  Humans to walk and run.

Today through March 6, in Kamloops, British Columbia, the world’s best Master’s Track and Field Athletes will gather to represent their Countries in the “Senior” Olympics.

It was a goal to be there this year. Injuries have prevented that from happening.  But indomitable will has kept me running and hoping for the USATF Master’s Track and Field National Championships this summer.

And you?

Wow He Seems So serious

Just keep saying this to yourself, “If not today, when?”

Lane 8 Optimism

Tell Them Age Is An Excuse

Tell Them Age Is An Excuse

What can we learn from defeat, loss, failure?

Many things to be sure. But only if we try hard to learn from setback. And only if we listen. And only if we then try again.

Are you listening? And I don’t mean, “Sleigh bells ring, are you listening”.

I mean, are you the kind of person that will pick yourself up after you fall?

Are you the type of person that finds a million ways to stay motivated?

You see, getting motivated is one thing. What makes winners is staying motivated.

Oh wait, you want to tell me something, right?

Okay, go ahead.

“Jeff, you don’t understand, my life is hard. It’s very difficult.”

Here’s a Christmas gift for you, and it is given with the most hopeful and sincere intent – “No one has it easy. Period. End of story.”

This may scare some people off, and I would hate to see that happen, but I can’t allow myself to make excuses.

How can I teach our son (9), that it’s okay to make excuses?
