Some see stacked rocks and harmony. Others see a Christmas tree and joy.

As they hiked through Zion National Park, jeff noel and his son spotted four insignificant and small stones, carefully stacked by someone desiring to leave a message for others to contemplate and enjoy. At the time, October, Christmas was not on noel’s mind. Today, totally. Merry Christmas from everyone at Lane 8.

So, in my infinite stupidity, a few moths of “training” later, I get the heat assignment. This time, there are no slow pokes in the race, unless you count me.

But, being an optimist and dreamer – with adrenaline coursing through my veins, the starter fires his pistol and we’re off.

Maybe 150 meters into it, early on the backstretch, POP!

The season is over. And right then and there, I promise to never ripe another hamstring.

So the next day at work, sharing the story with a colleague, who was also miserably out of shape, I said, “Look at us, we need to start working out. Can you do a push-up? I mean, right now. Let’s start right here, right now – here in the hallway. One push-up”.

He said, “Sure, I can do one push-up. Are you kiddin’ me? But I ain’t doing it here.”

Come on, I said, we’ll do one push-up a day for a week. The second week, we’ll do two push-ups a day. Third week, three a day, etc.

An impossible goal is something you’ve never done before.

Big difference. Maybe you’ve never walked a 5k before. Maybe that’s your impossible goal.
