What’s our physical responsibility today?

Orlando’s Amway Arena… from way up high…

What’s our physical responsibility today? How much of our thought goes into making healthy choices today? How much of our time exercising? How much time sleeping?

Three great physical conditioning reminders from London Olympics

From a Scout camp dining hall and rationed portions, to the annual summer beach vacation and letting our hair hang down… we experienced a keen appreciation for the different level of focus and luxury.

Scout dining halls

Three great physical conditioning reminders from London Olympics:

  1. A strong core is a prerequisite for excellence
  2. Being healthy is not a spectator sport
  3. Our toughest competitor is comfort

The secret trick to get healthy and stay healthy

mt everest

the antithesis of Mt Everest

People often ask me how I find the time for wellness, with a 30-year career gig involving massive travel, a solo, small biz entrepreneurial startup, being a Dad, Husband, etc.

My trick? I picture climbing Mt Everest – which is perhaps the ultimate physical and mental challenge, because it’s so high and so unpredictable. Some die trying. But the triumph from reaching the summit…. beyond description.

What do you say to people when they don’t ask?

national training center

2005 Clermont, Florida track meet

Running has been moving cautiously upward – faster. This is a great feeling. After a decade of chronic foot pain, my feet haven’t felt this good since 2001.

When I write something like this, the hope is that you can say something like:

  • my exercise is going well too, or…
  • I’m still working diligently, patiently, to overcome my injury, or…
  • it’s inspiring to see someone in their 50′s still making wellness a priority, or…
  • if he can do it, I can do it, or…
  • I want to be a great example for my family too, or…
  • jeff doesn’t use a busy schedule, travel, or anything else as an excuse to quit, or…
  • fill in the blank ________

Could Forks Over Knives Save Our Lives?

There's a time and a place, but not everyday. Moderation is good.

Roger Ebert says Forks Over Knives “May save our lives”.

Jamie Oliver is on a Food Revolution in America.

I wonder what it will take…

…to stop the madness.

When Was The Last Time You Felt Really Healthy?

The Florida State tree - cabbage palm. They look very healthy.

The day I quit working out will be the healthiest I’ll ever be for the rest of my life. There is no physical way to get or stay stronger, nor to have better (or maintained) cardiovascular abilities, without exercise. Read my lips. None.

My feet are feeling the best they have in a decade. This potentially means something fun and exciting. Hope I don’t blow it. When was the last time you felt healthier than you have in years?

His Goal Is 21 Days Of Healthy Eating?

21 days is one thing, but 365? Come on, no way.

Good morning from Beaumont, Texas. Last night completing the audio visual check for this morning’s presentation, one of the men talked about the 21-day challenge his church does every January. It’s a cleansing process focused on spirituality, but complimented with physical cleansing.

It was so intriguing to hear him talk about eating healthy, sensibly, consistently. And how much better he already feels after just three days.

All I could think was – glad to see you’re not surprised. And then started to wonder what happens the other 344 days of the year.

How Is Our Health Like Learning How To Play A Musical Instrument

Every chance I get to skip a fast food joint is another little victory.

Practice, practice, practice. I’ve never played a musical instrument, but watched my Dad teach drum lessons in our living room growing up. Every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings Dad gave 30-minute lessons to hopeful young musicians. I see how my (health) success as a Boomer is directly related to my steady, committed practice, just like those young drummer boys.

There Are Only A Few Critical Steps To Getting Healthy, Do You Know Them?

This trip provided the luxury of a kitchen, but not a grocery store, nor time to cook.

In the coming days, I’ll be sharing the steps I took to get healthy, and the steps to stay healthy – for the past 13 years.

Insight: When you can break complex, difficult things into simple, key, repeatable message points, you increase the stickiness of your goals. And everyone wants ideas that stick.

Hope Is Not Only Required To Get And Stay Healthy, It’s Demanded

I wouldn't rest until you figure out "why"! Does the answer scare you?

Hope is like a road in the country; there was never a road, but when many people walk on it, the road comes into existence. – Lin Yutang

Insight: Fatal flaw most people make in trying to get healthy is they focus first on “how”. You should solidify why first. Without the a compelling “why“, how will never have sustainability. Never.
