If someone asked us this question, would we be happy with our answer?

Children watch their parents and subconsciously learn values

This was 2009, now our Son is almost as tall as me

If someone asked us these questions, would we be happy with our answers? Do we exercise regularly? How long has it been like that?

You know, I don’t ask these types of questions to stimulate our guilt, but rather to stimulate our conviction.

The photo was taken moments before driving to the airport. After a decade of slow and steady exercise, I astonishingly represented the USA at the Masters Track & Field World Championships in Finland.

And now in 2013, 14 years after reCommitting to health, I’m still running.

Mind and body done, next, a short, pithy post about our emotional spirit, click here.

One hundred days since we promised ourselves 2013 is gonna be different… where are we today? Something about the end of the year, another year that got away from us. Too busy to focus on our health the way we wanted to.

Many of us recommitted with a white hot resolve that 2013 is OUR year!

One hundred days later, here we stand.

Where do we stand?

101 days later

Christmas evening 2012, 9:40pm…

Wondering how my health will be in 101 days.

And wondering if anyone else is looking ahead 101 days and wondering if they’ll still be healthy, happy, and fully engrossed with staying active.

The harsh reality of health awareness

photo of , No Lifeguard sign at Florida Beach

should say, no lifeguard, be sedentary at own risk

The harsh reality of health awareness. We truly don’t become aware how important good health is until we realize we don’t have it. Health offers a freedom very few realize.

Which Facebook photos make us the saddest?

desperation hides in the shadows, mostly undetected

desperation hides in the shadows, mostly undetected

Skimming Facebook, weirdly saddened by the photos. America is the only country in the world where people are searching for inner peace.

In third-world countries, people are searching for food.

When Americans let their health go it’s, well, sad.

There’s a hunger, a desperation, in the photos on my page that is hard to tell apart from starving children.

Yeah, that’s nebulous, but after some deep, reflective thought, the concept starts to appear.

You see, the only difference is the end goal, the desperation is the same. No?

Boomers trying to regain something they’ve abanoned

Greatness isn’t a gift reserved for a chosen few… superstars…

greatness

Greatness is no more unique to us than breathing… we’re all capable of it. All of us…

male Baby Boomers

We Boomers court the notion of trying to regain something we’ve abanoned. The Olympics always heighten this notion. And our awareness of youthfulness and dreaming impossible dreams, well, spikes.

This morning, would you just say a little prayer that a 53-year old Boomer will run his first competitive 1500 meters with courage and enthusiasm. And in a fearless, yet respectful way – simply to stay healthy – to do the “impossible”.

One health epiphany from yesterday’s post

childhood obesity

(Homer Simpson imitation) ummmm, caaaake

Okay, so we all agree that there’s a serious childhood obesity challenge. Childhood obesity has more than tripled in the past 30 years:

  • 6-11 year olds: from 7% in 1980 to nearly 20% in 2008
  • 12-19 year olds: from 5% to to 18% same time frame
  • in 2008, more than 1/3 of your 6-19 are overweight or obese

Why? Tomorrow…
