Is downhill terminal?

Mountain trail hike
September 2019, Glacier National Park, Siyeh Pass hike.

Is downhill terminal?

What do you mean downhill?

In a word, decline.

At 60, i’m qualified to speak about this.

Downhill can feel like it’s terminal, and it will for all of us, until we change our mind and turnaround – to go back uphill.

Go.

Note: This is a lifetime commitment – in either direction – and it’s critical to remember that the direction lasts forever.

Unfamiliar with convention

Logan Pass 2019, feeling vibrant. First visit here was 1973.

Unfamiliar with convention.

Yes.

Conventional aging and quality of life as Americans (and global citizens) is best stereotyped as surviving, atrophy, sedentary, anxiety, and loss.

Become unfamiliar with convention.

Thrive.

Balance mind, body, spirit, work, and home.

You deserve it.

So do the people you care about.

Slow and steady decline

Glacier National Park glaciers
The Glaciers are dying.

Slow and steady decline.

It happens in nature.

We are part of nature.

And so it happens to us.

Naturally.

Wait.

Have humans inadvertently found ways to accelerate their decline?

Is it possible to dance with nature and extend the life expectancy?

But if we can’t influence longevity, can we have a say in the quality of life – you know, the notion of personal vibrancy?

Decline happens both fast and slow

Florida pool pump
Doing home chores yesterday, was reminded by our “new” pool pump motor how quickly unchecked neglect can “suddenly” grab our attention.

Florida pool pump
Close up. Pump was shiny and new a year or two ago.

In bed later than expected and up much earlier than expected.

It happens.

Work hard to make the most of it.

Will they admit it?

Quote about determination and focus

(photo: The same can be said in reverse…persistent neglect and apathy will mean a consistent decline)

Will a person admit to themselves that their life, and their weight, are slowly and steadily spinning out of control?

Could they wake up one morning and realize that the food choices they’ve been making, the disrupted sleep habits they’ve been subjected to (maybe self-imposed), and the lack of exercise have contributed to creating a serious health issue?

Not to mention a person who doesn’t even look like the person they used to be.

As if a bomb went off and destroyed their temple.
