Is a million ways to stay motivated enough?

Are you a scientist?

Experimenting with motivation. And with a better way to keep injuries at bay.

Alternating walking and running.

Ran five miles yesterday. Will walk fast for an hour or so today.

The walking began a month ago due to a need to focus on thinking and not on running, but still wanting to keep moving.

Especially when we don’t feel like it

Life has a funny way of delivering on common sense if we allow it. Especially when we don’t feel like allowing it. Mostly because we think today is going to be the exception.

Felt the need to run but really didn’t feel like running. So it began as a walk.

After a mile or so, decided to run – it was only for three minutes. Just wasn’t feeling it.

Turned off the coastal road and hit the beach and had a strong headwind.

Eureka!

Nearly 20 minutes of running later, a break with a nine-minute walk. Followed by eight more minutes of jogging.

An hour after ‘not feeling like running’, felt refreshed and alive.

Conscious cleared.

What if we thought quitting was too difficult?

Bicycling is a great alternative when there are running injuries to deal with

Just imagine for a moment day dreaming about life and what you believe to be some of life’s critical success factors…

Do you fight to stay true to them?

Does it require you to be creative to keep from slipping?

Funny how easy it is to be creative and persevere when we believe these ideals are critical.

If we didn’t believe they were critical, we wouldn’t have to embrace them.

And if we don’t embrace them, we have a great excuse for quitting.

“It’s too hard.”

What if we thought quitting was too difficult?

Looking at the same thing, differently, changes everything.

Compromise is a great alternative to this… quitting.

The end of a seven day stretch and only two runs. Thought yesterday would be a run day and headed out the door but just couldn’t get the gears going. Rather than turn around and come home, a walk began…

Through a nearby nature preserve and for 70 minutes. Stopping, starting, photos, thinking, enjoying. forgiving.

But not quitting.
